Good sheets.  Not great sheets.  If you're looking for OK sheets on a budget these are it.  It is not long-staple Egyptian cotton, may not even be Egyptian cotton. When you go up in thread count the sheets are tougher and will withstand more washes before they wear out but it's 'more durable', real 1000 thread count sheets is kind of like sleeping on cardboard. Higher isn't better, it takes a really long time to wash and dry 1000 thread count sheets into softness.  Hotel sheets have a high thread count but because they wash them so often, they soften. The more you wash sheets the softer they get and you want a thread count high enough so that the threads don't break down during wash cycles.  You don't want the fabric too thin.  300 - 600 thread count sheets are an ideal balance between softness and durability and you want to have it made with long-staple or extra-long staple cotton.  There is such dishonesty in the linen industry.  You can't trust any labels.  When looking for Egyptian Cotton you want to make sure they display the seal.

But it doesn't have to be grown in Egypt, what you're really looking for is the type of plant that is grown and that it is a long-staple cotton.  So make sure it is "Long-staple Egyptian Cotton" if you spring for Egyptian cotton but long-staple cotton grown anywhere else in the world would be fine too and cheaper.  You really can't trust anyone, and there's no way to tell if they've just made it up until after you've already bought it, washed it, slept on it, and can't return it then.  The linen industry is marketing rich with 1000 different ways to market basic linens that don't actually matter much if at all.  At the heart of it all, it’s the cotton plant that makes the difference.  Long-staple cotton can be spun in strings longer than regular cotton so there are less knots tying each sting of cotton together and as you can imagine knots aren't soft.   So less knots mean it's softer.  It doesn't matter much where it's grown, really.
